Alumnus Evan Luscher Brings Operations Leadership, Engineering Expertise As Newest Alumni Board Representative

Rose-Hulman alumnus Evan Luscher, a 2010 economics and mechanical engineering graduate, is bringing experience in large-scale operations, advanced manufacturing, technology, and leadership development as the newest alumni representative to the Board of Trustees. His three-year term began during this year’s fall meeting.

Based in Chicago, Luscher is regional director of operations for Amazon’s Great Lakes Region, where he oversees six robotic fulfillment centers representing approximately 17,000 employees and 2.5 million customer orders each day. His responsibilities span safety, quality, delivery, cost, employee experience, and leadership development.

Since joining Amazon in 2018, Luscher has taken on progressively larger leadership roles. He has led some of Amazon’s largest robotic fulfillment operations, including launching a next-generation robotics fulfillment center in Houston and leading teams working alongside thousands of robots. More recently, he has been an early adopter of artificial intelligence at scale, applying AI to drive enterprise efficiency across supply chain and operations. He also serves as faculty for Amazon’s internal executive development programs, helping develop the company’s next generation of senior operations leaders, and supports executive hiring as a Bar Raiser.

“Evan’s career demonstrates the value of combining engineering knowledge and a commitment to developing people,” said Rose-Hulman President Robert A. Coons. “His experience leading complex operations and putting new technologies into practice will bring valuable perspective to the Board as we advance our strategic priorities and prepare students for opportunities in an evolving workplace. We are pleased to welcome him as our newest alumni representative.”

Before joining Amazon, Luscher spent more than eight years at Halliburton in manufacturing, supply chain, and continuous improvement roles. His assignments included leading manufacturing operations in Belgium and managing production teams in Malaysia, giving him experience leading across cultures and business environments.

Luscher’s hands-on approach was evident during his time at Rose-Hulman, where he worked in the machine shop from 2007 until his graduation in 2010, supporting student machining and fabrication projects. He also served as treasurer of Tau Beta Pi and president of Team Rose Motorsports. He graduated magna cum laude with bachelor’s degrees in mechanical engineering and economics, a combination that reflected both sides of his interests and ultimately shaped a career at the intersection of engineering, business, and people leadership.

His community involvement includes serving on the Associate Board of Directors of Northern Illinois Food Bank and previously on the Board of Directors of Rosenberg Helping Hands Food & Clothing Bank in Texas. While in Houston, he also helped build a partnership between Amazon and the Houston Food Bank that packed more than 1.5 million emergency food kits for the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Rose-Hulman shaped far more than my career. It taught me how to solve hard problems, keep learning, and work with really talented people to get difficult things done,” Luscher said. “Those lessons have stayed with me from engineering, to working around the world, to leading large teams at Amazon. Being asked to come back and represent alumni on the Board of Trustees is a real honor. I’m excited to give back, bring an industry and alumni perspective to the Board, and help Rose keep what makes it special while also evolving for what comes next, especially as technologies like AI change how we work, learn, and solve problems.”
